Dougal in the news

Hello and welcome to our blog.

We are Hamish and Dougal, two very handsome brothers who live with our human parents near Amroth on the stunning Pembrokeshire coast.

We had something of a tough start in life and were abandoned at Greenacres animal rescue centre in Haverfordwest when we were about a year old.  That was back in 2013 but we will always remember it.  The kind people there gave us shelter and arranged the veterinary care that Dougal needed after being injured in a dog attack.  Luckily, we were soon spotted on Greenacres’ website by the humans who would become our forever Mom and Dad.  It’s very nerve-racking when you are adopted, you never know where you are being taken, so we were pleased to hear that a lovely lady called Jenny had done what she called a “home check”.  This was to make sure that Mom and Dad would be suitable parents and that their house would be up to scratch for us.  Luckily, she assured us that she was happy on both counts.

Of course, Mom and Dad needed a bit of training to get them to behave just as we wanted but they picked up the rules pretty quickly and were soon wrapped around our paws!  The house was excellent with a big garden to explore and some old barns behind that were full of mice.  Inside there were comfy beds and sofas, snuggy spots by radiators and our own cupboard full of food.  What’s not to like?  Hence, after about a year, when we were told that there were plans to move, we were very concerned.  Our parents assured us that our little family would always be together, regardless of where we lived.  It seems they had looked long and hard before they found a property which was ideal to suit our lifestyle aspirations.  We had lots of “good to have” things on our wish list but there were two stipulations: a cat flap and no busy roads, both of which were non-negotiable.

We needn’t have worried, Mom and Dad knew exactly what we needed and where we live now is just purrfect.  Surrounded by fields and a few other houses, we get to rummage through gardens, explore fields and barns and make friends with sheep and horses.   There are rabbits, badgers, foxes and much more.  Importantly, there are lots and lots of mice.  We know we are lucky and very much loved.

We started this blog because we’d like to share snippets of our life with you and introduce you to our family and friends, animal and human.  We’d also like you all to benefit from our invaluable opinions on a wide variety of human subjects from lifestyle issues to politics and much more in between.

We hope you enjoy reading our blog as much as we enjoy typing it!

So readers, welcome to our world.
